Consultant’s Report for Cleveland

There has been an overwhelming request for copies of the consultant’s report that was prepared for the city of Cleveland in November, 2009. If you are wondering where the “garbage tax” came from, it is one of the recommendations made by the consultant’s. The report, in it’s entirety, can be found here

The Plain Dealer article that appeared on November 10, 2009,

Consultant’s Report Suggests that Cleveland Must Cut Jobs To Remain Financially Sound

“A quick glance reveals the significant conclusion that “Cleveland cannot address its financial challenges by maintaining the status quo with its 9,000 employees.”

Did I read that correctly? 9000 employees? Let’s read a little more:

“The report notes that: “there are functions which the city could eliminate outright, directing citizens to private sector or non-profit providers and directing limited General Fund revenues to core functions. These functions are noted throughout this report, and generally include enterprise functions that have come to require a General Fund subsidy (golf, cemeteries, off-street parking) or that generate fees but have strong private-sector competition (commercial waste collection).”

We are at a real crossroads here. You have no choice for your waste collection, you will pay an additional $96.00 dollars in 2010 to have waste removed, the consultant’s suggested commercial waste collection and how did your CITY COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES VOTE when all was said and done?
